My latest project is a full campaign setting for tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) like Pathfinder and D&D. It is, in fact, geared specifically towards D&D 5th Edition, Pathfinder, and Pathfinder 2nd edition. And it’s in pre-launch on Kickstarter, going live this week!
The general idea is that this world I've created, Yarthe, is an alternate history version of Earth, where magic has made the industrial revolution possible a bit earlier than it actually happened.
Due to magic making it harder for simple warlords to take over large areas, Europa consists of semi-independent city-states separated by wilderness full of monsters & bandits. The cities are connected by roads made before the recently receding dark age and maintained by powerful and poorly understood magic, and by airships created by the Technomancers of Eastern Europa.
The rest of the world is there to explore as well. From the vast continent of Akebulan to the south, home to great universities and centres of learning, to the Silk Road and the East Indies, and the Empire of the Sun far to the East. Europa may view itself as the centre of the civilised world, but that view is not shared by the rest of the world.
Further out, on the other side of the world lies the great, globe-spanning island chain of the Spine of the World, inhabited by merfolk and ocean-going tribes of islanders, and Terra Australis - the as-yet undiscovered (by Europa) continent where thunderbirds still roam and the fey still battle against the forces of darkness and the terrible entities which press against reality from outside of it.
Each region is detailed in the campaign setting, with cities, rulers and prominent NPCs, and an overview of the culture, religion, trade and economics of the region. The campaign setting also includes new spells, new subclasses (2 new Warlock or Witch patrons, a new Cleric domain, a new specialist Wizard school, a new Sorcerer bloodline, and a new Rogue subclass focused on the secrets of black powder and explosives), new creatures, and an unreasonable amount of worldbuilding and lore.
I'm also writing a novel set in this world, so the worldbuilding isn't going to slow down any time soon. If this is something you’re interested in, please follow along and share the Kickstarter with anyone who might like the opportunity to play in this world I’ve created. :)
